Essentially, the single most important thing to do before you downsize your home is to shift your mindset and think positively about your next move. Welcoming change is incredibly important in the early stages.

Once you have made the decision to downsize, you will need energy to move through the process, and when you are in a good state of mind, tasks will become much easier and you will be less likely to feel stuck.
The easiest way to shift your mindset is to find your ‘Why’. Why are you considering downsizing? What signs have you notice that indicate you need a more appropriate sized home?
Here are five possible indicators:
Your home is becoming too difficult to manage
You can no longer go up the stairs
You are feeling isolated
Your children are worrying about your situation
You do not have time to socialise as much as you would like to
Can you recognise any of these signs?
If you have clarity around the reason you are moving, your move will make sense and this will help you stick to your plan.
The next step is to stay positive about your next move. The way you can do this is by writing down all of the things you are looking forward to when you have moved into your new home.
Some things that will change
You will have more time to spend with family and friends
You will happier and healthier
You will be able to plan trips or do things you have never had the time to do.
So, how do you maintain a positive mindset?
Visualise living in your new space
Remember you are letting go of things, not your memories.
Write down all of the things you wish to do when you have made your move
All in all, your downsize will give you the opportunity to create many new memories and experience new and exciting things. Your state of mind and wellbeing will improve and you will be ale to make the most of your retirement.
Wishing you all the best on your Downsizing Journey.
